7, 8, 9 & 10
This week we started our volunteer assignments. There is a small team of us stationed at St. Joseph's home for chronically ill children. We came in with the mindset that we would be playing with sick kids and they shattered every perception we once claimed in exchange for these:
[] All children need stimulation: love, attention & playtime -Louis, our director, made it a point to tell us this on our first day. Especially since these kids are bored because they are on their summer break and the holidays just passed without them being able to see their families.
Fei, such a ladies' man.
[] All children have different behavior style- Kelsey Bigham, our kids share a lot of things at the home, toys, songs, germs but their individuality should never be overlooked and they will go out of their way to prove why that shouldn't be. That should be accepted and understood.
Kelsey and her boys.
[] Kids are kids, healthy or sick- Me, in the beginning we approached our new friends as if they were fragile but their resilience to perform crazy playground stunts reminded us just how wild at heart they truly were, despite any medical limitations they had put on them.
some of my favorites, hilarious as ever.
